Terms and conditions of service

Conal Conference Alerts reserves the right not to list events added to our site.

Conal Conference Alerts reserves the right to change the criteria we use for listing events as we see fit.

Conal Conference Alerts reserves the right to remove an email address from our subscriber database.

Subscribers wishing to be unsubscribed should furnish us with the email address with which they originally subscribed to Conal Conference Alerts. We will make every effort to unsubscribe subscribers, but failure to furnish us with the correct subscriber details may make it difficult for us to unsubscribe someone.

We reserve the right to edit information about events should we deem this necessary.

We reserve the right to edit or remove keywords to enable an event to reach the correct target audience.

We will make every effort to send a Email Alert announcement out as soon as possible after we receive notification of payment, however, we reserve the right to stagger the sending of Email Alert announcements as we see fit.

We reserve the right to refund payments and cancel orders should we not be able to deliver the paid service for any reason.

Privacy policy

  1. Conal Conference Alerts adheres to the principles of the Protection of Personal Information Act No. 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) as well as the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data (“GDPR”) in dealing with personal information. By continuing, you are confirming your consent to the processing of your personal information by Conal Conference Alerts, in accordance with our Privacy policy.
  2. Conal Conference Alerts shall take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information as well as the payments and payment information of Users, and for the purpose of this clause, “personal information” or “personal data” shall be defined as detailed in POPI and GDPR.
  3. Conal Conference Alerts may electronically collect, store and use the following personal information of users:
    1. Information as provided by users upon first registering with the service. This may change from time to time but includes names and e-mail addresses. Where credit card information is collected this is done via secure servers.
    2. Information provided by users when changing their profiles or conference announcements.
    3. Information provided by users when communicating directly with us, whether by e-mail or otherwise.
    4. Tracking information regarding which parts of our site you visit.
    5. We participate in the Google Adsense program, and as part of this program, cookies and/or web beacons are used to collect data in the ad serving process. Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve interest-based ads to users based on their visit to our site and other sites on the Internet.
    6. Information provided by users when communicating directly with us, whether by e-mail or otherwise.
  4. Conal Conference Alerts collects, stores and uses the abovementioned information for the following purposes:
    1. To enable us to deliver our service, i.e. to appropriately direct conference announcements;
    2. To authenticate users;
    3. To compile non-personal statistical information about typical users' demographics and interests, browsing habits, click- patterns, and access to the Conference Alerts website.
  5. Information detailed above is collected either electronically by using cookies or is provided voluntarily by the user. We allow the Google Adsense program to use cookies and/or web beacons in the ad serving process. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.
  6. Conal Conference Alerts may transfer your personal information to the City of Los Angeles in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
  7. Conal Conference Alerts may collect, maintain, save, compile, share, disclose and transfer any information collected from users, subject to the following provisions:
    1. Conal Conference Alerts shall not disclose your personal information unless you consent thereto or unless you were specifically informed that personal information would be disclosed prior to you providing us with such personal information.
    2. Conal Conference Alerts shall disclose personal information without your consent only if it is required to do so in order to comply with an obligation imposed on it by law.
    3. Users have the right to access their personal information and to request Conal Conference Alerts to rectify the information collected should it be incomplete or contain any errors.

Users have the right to lodge a complaint with regards to the processing of any personal information with the Information Regulator at email: infoirsa@justice.gov.za if the user is situated within South Africa or with their National Data Protection Authority if the user is situated within the European Union.

Disclaimer

Please check all details of conference organizers carefully before making arrangements to attend an event, or paying money to organizers.

Conal Conference Alerts checks event details to the best of our ability; but the final responsibility of ensuring that an event is bona fide rests with you as a potential conference goer.

Please also be wary of event websites using the Conal Conference Alerts logo to try and gain status and/or credibility for their event. Conal Conference Alerts does not have any media partnerships with event organizers and has not given permission to organizers to use the Conal Conference Alerts logo.

Ethical standards for adding events to Conal Conference Alerts

Event organisers confirm that the event being added is run in an ethical, professional, non-predatory way.

Amongst other things, this means that:

  1. The main purpose of the event is to contribute to the academic, professional or cultural record, and facilitate networking among those working in these fields.
  2. Names of speakers/committee members/those involved with the event will only be listed with their express consent.
  3. Organizers will not disseminate information about the event that is false or misleading.
  4. There will be a clear refund policy, and should the event not take place, monies owed will be refunded according to this policy.
  5. Organizers will provide a contact email address or contact form and will answer queries about the event timeously.
  6. The event will be run professionally.
  7. The event will adhere to academic and professional standards.
  8. If the event involves the presentation of papers, papers will undergo a review process that is academically and professionally sound.
  9. Event organizers will not use the Conal logo without written permission.
  10. Event organizers will not use logos or wording, such as conference alerts, that confuses the Conal brand.
